Jack Smith, who took this photo of the Tempest over the pyramids, sadly passed away on 28 October 2010. We extend our deepest sympathy to his daughter Melanie and his family.

I was fortunate to have the same view of the pyramids from the rear seat of the squadron Meteor T7 flown by John ‘Gibbo’ Gibbons out of Deversoir.
I can recall the sound of Tempests chasing V1s in 1944-45.
A wonderful sound!

My Father has this photo as it is his brother (Stanislaw Dabrowski) flying the Tempest. Stanislaw Dabrowski was later with 213 squadron based in Egypt where he also flew Vampires. On 11th May 1950 wilst flying his vampire he had a head on collision with a Lincoln B2 serial SX957 of 148 Sqn they were taking part in a fighter affiliation exercise. 12 Miles North East of RAF Fayid . The Vampire carried out a head on attack against the aircraft but failed to pull away and they were involved in a head on collision.
The Vampire was an FB5 serial VZ188 of 213 Sqn and the pilot was
Pilot II Stanislaw DABROWSKI 28.

Peter Sikora
Dear Andrew
What a coincidence. I was looking for Stanislaw’s family for some time. Currently I am gathering materials for an article about Polish pilots flying jet planes after the war. I would love to make a contact.
