Dixie Heron and Son

Lest we Forget

Today is the 70 th anniversary of the allied invasion of Sicily

An association member, (seen here with his son), Maurice (Dixie) Heron was among the Commandos and British Troops who landed in Sicily during the  invasion of Sicily on 10th July 1943.

We are looking forward to meeting Dixie again at the reunion on 17th August at North Weald.

It is with great sorrow, that I have to announce the Death of Jim Lingham.

Jim Lingham

His son-in-Law, Lee Haughton writes.

“It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that my father in law and  249 Sqn Association member Jim Lingham has passed away.

He suffered a brain haemorrhage in March.  Although we were told at the time that he had already gone, he proved the doctors wrong.  He staged a heroic fight back to the amazement of us and the doctors for three months.

We were ready for him to come out of hospital when he suddenly passed away.  After fighting with his mobility problems for so many years it was his lack of muscle strength that hampered his recovery, his breathing recovered last, and unfortunately pneumonia took him from us.”

Jim Served in the orderly room under C/O’s Squadron Leaders Barfoot and Ewan

Our Condolences to his Family and Friends.

The next 249 Squadron Crews Annual Weekend reunion will be held at the Bosworth Hall Hotel, Market Bosworth on Friday 28th February and Saturday 1st March 2014.
