Dave Welch writes

“The only squadron this Vampire FB5 served with was 249, probably in Egypt. Later it went to a Civilian Anti Aircraft Cooperation Unit at Exeter airport, and by 1961 I took a black and white shot of it parked at the gate of No 14 MU, RAF Carlisle.
This shot was at the Duxford Museum in 1980. I suppose those coloured
bars on the tail booms are an attempt at 249 colours. I think it still exists in a museum but I’m not sure which one.”
