Jim Nicolson writes
“I had the great honour on Battle of Britain Day, to unveil the attached memorial. The Sholing School in Southampton, has named a new building after Nicolson VC, as they felt it was wrong not to have any memorial to him in Southampton, which is where the action for which he was awarded the VC took place.
The pupils spent a year collecting the funds for the memorial, which now takes pride of place for them and future generations to see.
It was a big occasion and the Solent Air Museum sent their full-sized fibreglass Hurricane along. They has now plans to repaint it in Nicolson’s colours and place it on a mount outside their museum! So, hopefully before long, a 249 Squadron Hurricane will be flying in Southampton once more!”
